One number to call for alcohol treatment – 0800 051 5857

A new confidential telephone advice service which will spearhead the new Alcohol Treatment System in Derby is being launched on 27 October.

The new telephone advice line 0800 051 5857 will provide callers with information on the various alcohol treatment options that are now available to city residents and signpost people to the most appropriate service for their needs.

Individuals who may have a problem with alcohol, their families and professionals working with people who are experiencing problems with alcohol are being encouraged to contact the ‘freephone’ number to find out about the range of alcohol treatment and support options that are now available.

The telephone advice service is the ‘front door’ to alcohol treatment which has been reconfigured and expanded, to meet both the growing demand for specialist alcohol treatment and to provide services that identify alcohol problems earlier and thus prevent long term damage to health. The new alcohol treatment system represents a £2.1 million investment by NHS Derby City.

Richard Martin, Head of Drug and Alcohol Strategy at Derby Community Safety Partnership which is delivering the programme in partnership with NHS Derby City, explained:  “The strain problematic and dependent drinking places on health and social services are well documented.

“Alcohol abuse can have a devastating effect on the individual, their families and friends, and the wider community, left untreated the ‘cost’ of alcohol problems on both frontline services and local communities would increase year on year.

“Families and communities who experience at first hand the problems associated with problematic drinking rightly expect alcohol treatment to be available to all those who need it, we believe the new alcohol treatment system will meet these requirements.

“Preventing the onset of alcohol problems is also vital; the new alcohol treatment system has been developed to ensure individuals who seek advice about their drinking receive a level of service that is tailored to their needs.

The single confidential telephone number to access information and advice will make it simpler for people to discuss any issues they may have”.
