Setting a benchmark of good practice for licensed premises to help reduce the risk of alcohol-related harm, disorder and crime.
Best Bar None is a national accreditation scheme designed to recognise and reward the good and safe working practices that pubs, clubs and bars have in place. Created and developed by Greater Manchester Police's City Safe Unit in conjunction with the UK drinks industry, the scheme is the first of its kind and recognised by the Government as best practice.

To date, it's running in over 80 towns and cities across the UK. It offers accreditation to licensed premises that can prove they operate to a high standard of safety and customer care.
The first awards were held in Manchester in March 2003 and, since then, the scheme has grown rapidly to encompass a large number of towns and cities across the UK.
The key elements of Best Bar None are:
  • promotion of responsible licensed trade management
  • promotion of socially responsible drinking
  • commitment to caring for, and protecting, customers
  • commitment to reducing the potential for disorder in city/town centres and public places arising from alcohol abuse.
